Day Two - April 6
Brett Wetterich (73): "I wanted to make a lot of pars. You always hear the great players say that pars are great in majors. I was just going out there to try make as many as I could and I did pretty good for 14 holes, and then had a few hiccups, but kind of gathered myself and had a good 17 and 18th hole."
Justin Rose (75): "I'm happy really I think. It was a hard, hard round of golf, way harder than yesterday. I think we got the tough end of the draw as it turned out. Greens were rock hard, fast, spiked up this evening and so it was very, very difficult out there. And yeah, I managed to create some birdie opportunities which I didn't make, but as I say, to shoot 3-over and not have a birdie was probably a decent round."
Padraig Harrington (68): "I thought the course was an excellent test and set up very well. It was a good mental test - when to go for pins and when to play safe. You've got to give it your full attention. Yesterday I messed up a lot of simple shots."
Vijay Singh (71): "I played decent at the beginning of the day. It wasn't as bad as yesterday. It's not playing easy by any means. We were hoping it would rain on Wednesday. When it didn't, we knew it would be difficult.
Just playing solid golf and my putting is decent. You've got to drive it. I think this is the toughest driving course."
Zach Johnson (73): "I think I hit only one bad shot the last three holes. I hit some really good putts... all in all I'm very content with where I'm at. I'm putting really well. I'm reading the greens well and I feel good over the putts. I 3-putted No. 16. On the first putt I think the wind affected it and the second one hit a spike mark... it's just the greens. Par are par I guess I got 'Augustacized'."
Vaughn Taylor (72): "I feel like I'm putting well and I feel like I'm swinging well and, you know, speed on the greens is really key. You definitely have to hit it in the right spots on the greens as well. I feel like I'm rolling it good. So hopefully that's an advantage for me."
Jerry Kelly (69): "I got the ball in the fairway a few more times than yesterday. I still didn't strike the driver as well as I would like, but I really set myself up for birdies with a couple of great iron shots, especially the one on 5 was very solid. I haven't been known as a high ball hitter for a long time, but I really worked hard on that on the range this week, and I've really been able to launch it higher than I have in a long time. So I wonder why I haven't been doing it for a long time."
Tiger Woods (74): "I felt like I turned basically a 90 into a 74 today which is nice. Yesterday I threw away a good round and today I salvaged a bad one. So I kept myself right there in the ballgame, five shots back. With the weather coming on the weekend, I'm right there in the ballgame."
Bradley Dredge (70): "I'm pretty excited to be in the mix and the 17th was a massive bonus. I didn't hit the ball great, but I hit some good shots when it mattered. And I putted really well, which I haven't done for a while. You've just got to grind it out here and put the blinkers on. I like to think this sort of course suits me. You've really got to think about what you are doing."
David Howell (75): "An interesting day. I'm not in control of the ball as I would like to be - I haven't been all year - but I'm not going to be a million miles away at the end of the day. I'm in the hunt again at Augusta, which is wonderful."
Jim Furyk (71): "I didn't play that poorly yesterday. I wasn't able to manage the way I wanted to. Today I hit a lot of greens. Didn't putt very well. Honestly, I don't think I can strike it as well as I did today. I need to make more putts. I only missed one green."
Lee Westwood (73): "When the course was shorter more of us would have had an answer, but now there are only six or seven people in the field who can win it. It is a bit of a shame really because it used to be a shot-maker's course. But now I don't think it is. I wouldn't say it's unfair, but it is not fair for everybody."
Darren Clarke (71): "Strangely enough, I didn't play as bad yesterday. Almost had a chance to make the cut today. I played really solid today. Yesterday was a really big disappointment. I played nice today. I plan to go back to the beach in the Bahamas (Abaco). The course is great."
David Toms (78): "Yesterday, I ended up in good spots a lot of times. Today I didn't feel as comfortable.
Yesterday, I fired it at the sticks. Yesterday for me I didn't have much wind. No matter who the guy is, you can get in trouble. If you don't hit solid shots you can really get in trouble. "
Seve Ballesteros (80): "It was great to be back - that was my victory this week. I wasn't able to practise much. For a few reasons I was not really prepared. I tried to gain some form and was feeling okay on Monday, but then I lost my confidence on Tuesday and I just did everything wrong. I was going okay for a while today (with some incredible scrambling he played the first four holes in one under), but it's just the lack of competition. It's been seven months. I'm going home and I'll have a little break. Most likely I'll come back some time in May."
