US MASTERS PROFILE
It's almost three decades since a South African won a Green Jacket and even though the likes of Ernie Els and Retief Goosen have come close, this year Trevor Immelman should also be a contender. The compact swinger started the season buoyed by being voted US Tour rookie of the year in 2006 when he bagged his first tournament win in the Western Open. Immelman, a long-time European Tour favourite, showed he was not afraid to mix it with the big boys when an eye-catching tied fifth in the 2005 Masters which included a stunning third-round 65. A missed cut in 2006 came during a low period when he departed on Friday afternoon in four succesive events but his Western Open triumph was during a successful summer after working with swing guru David Leadbetter. This term he reached the semi-finals of the WGC Accenture Match Play and made the top 10 at Bay Hill so an in-form Immelman is sure to be a threat.
