| US MASTERS PROFILE |
 |
| Wins in the WGC-American Express and the Tour Championship marked Weir down as a player capable of landing the really big prizes and he made the big breakthrough by winning the 2003 US Masters - a surprise in some quarters given his lack of real length off the tee. But the Canadian left-hander proved how important the short game is at Augusta as he holed a series of crucial putts before beating Len Mattiace in a play-off. Weir has also finished in the top four in the last two US Opens so, with his unflappable temperament, he looks like being a Major contender for years to come. Quiet since a runner-up at Pebble Beach, Weir will want to kick-start his season again with a big performance here. |
