DIMARCO NOT ALONE IN DOUBLE ANGUISH
Chris DiMarco is only the second player in major history to have lost
successive play-offs.
In 1934 Craig Wood tied with Paul Runyan in the 36-hole final of the US PGA
championship - match-play then - and lost at the second extra hole.
The following April, in the second Masters tournament, he was heading for
victory until Gene Sarazen made an albatross two on the 15th hole. It became
known as 'the shot heard round the world' and Sarazen won the 36-hole play-off
by five.
Last August DiMarco tied with Vijay Singh and Justin Leonard in the US PGA,
and Singh won the three-hole play-off.
