Brian Davis' first Masters got off to a stuttering start - he did not even make it to the course.

The Londoner, unsure of his place in the tournament until eight days ago when he held onto the 50th spot in the world rankings, spent 45 minutes stuck in traffic and decided to abort.

"I had intended to come up early, but after moving only about 200 yards I decided to go to another course and have some breakfast," he said.

When he tried again later things were better and he was able to take his first steps on Augusta National.

Davis reported no news from home, where his wife Julie, daughter of former England goalkeeper Ray Clemence, is expecting their first child soon. She is due to be induced on Wednesday week.

Europe's other debutants this week are Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Phillip Price and Fredrik Jacobson.
