US MASTERS PROFILE
Toms took his place among the golfing elite by winning the USPGA Championship at Atlanta Country Club in 2001. To followers of the man from Louisiana it didn't come as a shock. The 36-year-old has been one of the most improved players in the game over the last few years, notching up seven US Tour wins. Toms first made his mark in the majors with a tied sixth place at the 1998 Masters when he raced through the field with a sparkling eight-under-par 64 in the final round. He hasn't been able to hit such heights on his subsequent visits and it remains to be seen whether the lengthening of the course has hurt his chances. Toms' recent form is a worry too. Although he got to the final of the WGC-Accenture World Match Play championship, Toms has struggled in regular Tour events and missed four cuts in a row before last week's tied 28th in the BellSouth Classic.
