US MASTERS PROFILE
Mickelson's length and magical short game have had many tipping him for a green jacket ever since he burst onto the scene in the early 1990s. And six top seven finishes in the last eight years at Augusta, including three third places, shows that he is a perennial threat in the year's opening Major. But can he take the next step and win at Augusta? No-one questions the talent but his commitment to all-out attack when caution seems best casts doubt that he will ever rid himself of the dreaded Best Player Not To Have Won A Major tag. The approach cleary works for Mickelson in regular Tour events - he has 21 US titles to his name - although he hasn't added to his tally in 2003. Mickelson has had an extended break from action this year following the birth of his third child and there were obvious signs of rust as his Masters warm-up at the BellSouth Classic saw him miss the cut by six shots. That display must concern him.
