|
| Despite a memorable victory at the 1997 USPGA Championship at Winged Foot, the general feeling in the game was that Love hadn't made the most of his talents. But he answered the doubters in emphatic style with a magnificent victory at the recent Players Championship. Love's final round 64 on a day of high scoring gave him the title by six shots and partner Fred Couples described it as the best round of golf he'd ever seen. Love will now look to carry that form into Augusta where he's twice been runner-up. In 1995 he was edged out by Ben Crenshaw and four years later couldn't quite reel in Jose Maria Olazabal. He's also had three other top sevens and led after round one last year so his game is ideally suited to Augusta. Love's victory at Sawgrass saw his price tumble and his backers know they have a serious chance of collecting. |
