US MASTERS PROFILE
As a 10-year-old, Howell once shot 79 at Augusta National and his love affair with the Masters has grown ever since. He was born a stone's throw from the course and once said: "I've made it clear that's the one tournament I would want to win over any other tournament in the world. I consider Augusta National hallowed ground." Howell got his first crack at the green jacket last year and performed creditably to finish tied 29th. A successful 2002 ended with a first Tour win at the Michelob Championship and a second place at the Tour Championship. And he's cemented his position as one of game's rising stars this year with more good performances, including a play-off loss to Mike Weir at the Nissan Open. Although he's dipped a little since, his ability to blast the ball huge distances will help him at Augusta and he should be a challenger here for years to come.
