US MASTERS PROFILE
The young Spaniard made a wonderfully assured debut at Augusta in 1999 when his tied 38th place finish earned him the silver cup awarded to the leading amateur. No European had previously won it. He also led after round one the following year and 12 months ago cracked the top ten for the first time, finishing eighth. Garcia had the distinction of being the only player to finish in the top ten in all four 2002 majors although his chances of performing a similar feat look remote this year. Garcia has been trying to implement swing changes in recent times and his form has dipped seriously as a result. He's missed his last three cuts in America and also went out of the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play. He may follow in the footsteps of compatriots Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal and win the Masters one day but it looks highly unlikely this year.
