US MASTERS PROFILE
After getting his hands on the Claret Jug last summer, Els is now desperate to slip his arms inside the green jacket. Ernie's British Open victory at Muirfield added to his two US Open titles and the big South African will have his eye on a career slam of all four Majors. Judging by his fantastic start to the season he has the talent to do it. The globetrotting Els began his US campaign by winning the Mercedes Championship and the Sony Open before switching to the European Tour to capture the Heineken Classic and the Johnnie Walker Classic. A wrist injury hampered his bid to take on Tiger at Bay Hill and also forced his withdrawal from the Players Championship. But with a clean bill of health Els looks set to be Woods' biggest rival. He's finished in the top six in the last three Masters and was bang in contention last year until coming to grief at the 13th.
