Clarke made a hugely encouraging Masters debut in 1998 when tied eighth and has also finished in the top 25 for the last two years. Despite losing his way at times in the last couple of seasons, there are signs this year that the Ulsterman is on the verge of something big. A top ten at the Nissan Open gave the first hint but he really caught the eye when tied sixth at the Players Championship last time out. Clarke has already shown he can beat the very best by sinking Tiger Woods in the final of the 2000 World Match Play. A second place in the 1997 British Open is Clarke's closest brush with a major but he has the talent to become the next European winner of the Masters.
