US MASTERS PROFILE
The Ulsterman made a hugely encouraging Masters debut in 1998 when tied eighth and had moved up to fourth late in round three last year before a poor finish left him down in tied 24th. But the feeling remains that Clarke has a US Masters title in him and he heads to Augusta brimming with confidence after a second place in the Houston Open in his last start. Clarke also has peace of mind after revealing that his wife had recently been given the 100% all-clear after recovering from breast cancer. As he proved when beating Tiger Woods in the final of the 1999 World Match Play in California, Clarke can be almost unstoppable when he gets up a head of steam and he has a serious chance of adding to the list of European winners this week.
