Faxon hasn't really threatened to win a green jacket but he's established himself as one of the most consistent performers at Augusta. In eight visits he's had two top tens and finished 26th or better on six occasions. Given his reputation as one of the best putters the game has ever seen that's hardly a surprise and having improved his driving he could certainly make a more serious victory bid this time. He's shown some great form this season with a third place at the World Match Play and a second at the Honda Classic making him seventh on the Money List and he looked set to bank another big cheque at last week's BellSouth Classic before a final round 79 relegated him to tied 39th. Short hitters like Faxon are supposed to be inconvenienced by the lengthening of the course this year so it will be fascinating to see if his short game can keep him in with a chance of victory.
