US MASTERS PROFILE
Mickelson's length and magical short game have had many tipping him for a green jacket ever since he burst onto the scene in the early 1990s. And five top seven finishes in the last seven years at Augusta, including two third places, shows that he is a perennial threat in the year's opening Major. His best chance of victory came last year but, paired with Tiger Woods in the final group, he could never get his nose in front and had to settle for third. No-one questions the talent but his commitment to all-out attack when caution seems best leads some observers to doubt if he will ever get rid of his Best Player Not To Have Won A Major tag. It cleary works for Mickelson in regular Tour events and he has 20 US titles to his name and nearly added a 21st last week. But can he take the next step when it matters most?
