Tiger Woods (67 - 133): "My best quality was patience. I hit a couple of bad shots but I just kind of hung around, stayed patient and made key putts for par and kept the momentum going."
Colin Montgomerie (66 - 137): "It was great that the crowd stayed. I pay a lot of respect to them for helping me home. This is not fun - it's a major and business. Very much business."
Vijay Singh (69 - 138): "I'm kind of disappointed but happy with my position. I just could not get the right pace on the greens and left a lot of putts short. I'm playing well and striking the ball well and I just have to be patient and wait until they start falling."
Trevor Immelman (70 - 138): "I'm delighted with the way I played. And to hole that putt at the last was a great feeling."
Sergio Garcia (69 - 139): "I'm in a fairly good position but I'm not very pleased with the first two
days. The way I played I feel I should be seven or eight under par easily. I know
if I can get it going with the putter I can really shoot a low round."
Fred Couples (71 - 139): "I hit a six-iron on the 11th and my back gave out. I shanked it. I
just hope I wake up feeling okay."
John Daly (69 - 140): "If it stays like it is I don't think anyone is going to catch Tiger. He's
hitting the ball well and has so much confidence. The only chance is if the weather gets bad. Get some wind and then it might
be more favourable for me."
Sandy Lyle (67 - 141): "Tomorrow the old body will feel a bit sore from the walking and I will be
tired. It could go the other way. But it is a good start. Maybe this can be the springboard to better
things."
Ernie Els (67 - 142): "I got off to a good start but still made a lot of mistakes. I made eight birdies because the flags are a little more accessible and I have to be happy with that after yesterday's 74."
Nick Faldo (69 - 143): It's all about desire. You've got to have goals and you've got to be happy
with yours goals. Now I just go and play. Keep
plodding along."
Jack Nicklaus (72 - 147): "I was a golfer today, all the way until it was quite obvious I wasn't going
to make the cut on the 17th. That was the first time I stopped being a golfer and maybe I should to that
more often because I birdied the last. Then I just let my emotions go with it. Maybe it's just as well I missed the cut - I don't want to go through this
again."
Tony Jacklin (76 - 155): "I am glad I decided to play. I got a tremendous ovation. It was
very heart-warming, very emotional. I enjoyed the front nine but struggled coming home both days."
