THE OPEN PROFILE
Hamilton provided the second successive surprise in the Open Championship when he got the better of Ernie Els to lift the famous Claret Jug at Troon last year. With his proven winning pedigree in Japan and earlier triumph in the 2004 Honda Classic, Hamilton was superb under pressure on the final day although, like Ben Curtis before him, he's done virtually nothing since. Hamilton hasn't managed a top 15 finish in 19 events on the US Tour this season so he has it all on to make a solid defence of his title.
