THE OPEN PROFILE
Clarke still struggles to shed his 'talented but frustrating' tag and simply doesn't win enough for a man of such ability. However, he does have a couple of WGC events in the bag and having beaten the best fields in the world there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to repeat the feat in a major. The Ulsterman grew up playing links golf so the Open surely gives him his best chance. He's had several near misses, most notably his second place at Troon in 1997, while he was seventh at St Andrews in 2000.
