WOODS PUTTS THE CASE FOR MONTY

Tiger Woods thinks Colin Montgomerie should take away from St Andrews the belief that he can still win a major.
"Look how well he played," said the new Open champion. "He has got his game back now and when he is playing well he hits it really straight.
"He hits his irons and controls his distances as one of the best players in the world.
"The only thing that has really stopped him is his putter. He has gone from conventional to belly, now back to conventional again.
"During that run (1993-99) when he had seven Order of Merits in a row he putted beautifully. At the time he was Europe's best ball-striker and also one of the most consistent putters.
"If he putts well there is no reason he can't win a major championship."
