Woods - held off all the challengers.
THE MINUTE THAT DECIDED THE TITLE
At 4.40pm at St Andrews the 134th Open Championship swung decisively in Tiger
Woods' favour and was the key moment of the final day as the world number one
won his second Open, once again at the home of golf.
Here the Press Association's Carl Markham looks at how the drama unfolded in
60 short seconds.
Colin Montgomerie, two behind Woods but playing the hole in front, comes up
short of the par-four 13th green with his approach.
Jose Maria Olazabal, also two behind but playing the par-four 12th with Woods,
luckily escapes the gorse but finds himself in the rough off the tee. Woods
almost drives the 12th green, finding the light rough 30 yards out.
Olazabal's second shot fails to reach the putting surface and is left with a
chip over a mound.
Montgomerie chips to five feet at the 13th. Olazabal also chips past the hole,
leaving himself a tricky six-footer for par. Woods chips up to five feet short
of the pin.
Montgomerie misses his putt for par and drops to 10 under.
Olazabal's return
putt shaves the hole but does not drop and the Spaniard falls back to 10 under
alongside the Scotsman. Woods, having watched Olazabal miss for par, strokes
home a birdie to hold a four-shot advantage with six holes to play.
