Day Two - July 16
Skip Kendall (66 - 135): "I know there is a long way to go, this has only been one day. This is
certainly the highest I've been in a major, I've not been in that many to begin
with. I've just got to stay relaxed."
Barry Lane (68 - 137): "My knees are aching and my elbows are aching, but it doesn't seem to be
threatening to stop me playing golf. You're going to get aches and pains at 44!"
Colin Montgomerie (69 - 138): "When I didn't birdie the last hole at Sunningdale I didn't
think I would be here, so I am certainly happy to be in the position I'm in,
even with that bogey at the end."
Ernie Els (69 - 138): "Shooting 69 in a Major is a good score but I feel a little frustrated
because I think I left some shots out there."
Vijay Singh (70 - 138): "I was given chances before and I didn't take them and I am in a great
position again this week. If someone had given me a 70 starting out today I would have taken that."
Michael Campbell (71 - 138): "Right now my tap running pretty red hot. And I'm going to turn that tap on
further and further until it flows out."
Retief Goosen (70 - 139): "The wind was stronger and it was very cold this morning, but when it's
tougher the better players will come to the top and I'm happy with my round,"
Kenny Perry (70 - 139): "There's no courses back home to prepare you for this golf. The firmness, the
undulations, the bounces, I think that's what's so great about this
tournament."
Mike Weir (68 - 141): "My game is a precision game, I'm not a power player. I need to plot my way
around the golf course and I did that today.
Darren Clarke (72 - 141): "I'm trying to find the positives. I've certainly left an
awful lot of shots out there."
Tiger Woods (71 - 141): "I'm very happy with the way I played. Obviously it could have been a couple of shots better but overall the course
is not playing easy."
Gary Emerson (71 - 141); "I had a great attitude out there, even though it was cold and windy when we
teed off (at 6.41am) and we were all half-asleep."
Ian Poulter (72 - 143): "One over par is more than respectable in that wind and that has definitely
made the cut. If tomorrow I play the way I did on the back nine
then I can shoot 65 and that would win this tournament."
Nick Faldo (77 - 153): "I need to change a few things and I didn't have enough time before the
Open. What I had was not good enough for the Open."
