Day Four - July 18
Todd Hamilton (69 - 274): "I've won tournaments around the world before but nothing on a stage like
this. To be the Open champion is very special."
Ernie Els (68 - 274): "I didn't want to let this one go. I felt I was playing good. I
made a big mistake on 10 making double bogey there but I didn't want to let this
one go."
Phil Mickelson (68 - 275): "I shot three under, I played solid. The guys behind me were making
the birdies and I wasn't."
Lee Westwood (67 - 278): "I know my game is good enough to win
a major. It's just a question of giving myself the opportunity. I was not quite close
enough today to put the pressure on them."
Tiger Woods (72 - 281): "Obviously I didn't win so I will have to take a look at where I went wrong,
the mistakes I made and rectify them before the next tournament."
Darren Clarke (68 - 282): "I was in good shape, made a mistake (he double-bogeyed the 18th on day one and went back from
four under to two under) and never really recovered."
Vijay Singh (71 - 285); "I'm disappointed. I'm extremely disappointed with the way I played yesterday
and a few holes today."
Colin Montgomerie (76 - 286): "I can still win this championship one day if it all goes my way. I wouldn't say this was a chance lost. It was a
very good Open for me and there are a lot of positives."
Stuart Wilson (76 - 296): "Winning the silver medal is a fantastic feeling, right up there with being
amateur champion, and to do them both in the same year is special."
Sandy Lyle (79 - 303): "It's very, very difficult out there and they have been pretty nasty with the
pin placings."
