| THE OPEN PROFILE |
 |
| Despite his well-documented swing problems and lack of a strokeplay victory this year, it's a foolish man who rules out Tiger Woods. Troon is the scene of his lowest ever round in a Major - a 64 in 1997 - and he loves the challenge of links golf. As well as a victory at St Andrews in 2000, Woods finished just one shot out of a play-off in 1998 and was just two strokes behind winner Ben Curtis last year. That said, Woods no longer strikes fear into his rivals and the intimidation factor alone won't be enough this week. If the wind really blows, Tiger's stray drives will be blown further off course and even his amazing powers of recovery won't be able to save him. Can he stop the rot or will this make it nine Majors in a row without a victory? |
