THE OPEN PROFILE
Toms joined the upper echelon with a flood of US Tour wins in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It culminated in a first Major title at the 2001 USPGA and many believe more will follow. He missed the early part of the season after undergoing wrist surgery but showed he has suffered no long-term effects with a runaway victory at the FedEx St Jude Classic at the end of May - a title he won 12 months ago. Toms was fourth on his Open debut at St Andrews in 2000 but on the tighter Open tracks he's struggled and his ability to handle windy conditions on a links course remains to be seen.
