THE OPEN PROFILE
Armed with the confidence that goes with becoming a Major champion, Mickelson will be keen to make up for lost time and quickly add another title. The left-hander has a distinctly modest Open record consisdering the brilliance of his play but he could well improve on past efforts thanks to the more circumspect approach he has taken this season. He got no further than Friday in his warm-up at the Barclays Scottish Open but that will give him more chance to assess the challenge that Troon presents. His record in the 2004 majors so far is 1-2 having won the Masters then come up just shy at the US Open.
