THE OPEN PROFILE
Furyk joined the golfing elite with an emotional win in the US Open of 2003 but the man from Pennsylvania has endured a restricted campaign to date this year after undergoing surgery on a wrist problem. His comeback at Shinnecock Hills was promising under the circumstances and his effort was even better at the Western Open when he posted a top-10 finish. Furyk does have form at the Open but has got no further than Friday on his last three bids. But his accurate, controlled manner of play should keep errors to a minimum and, after those three missed cuts, a much better display is on the cards this week at a venue where he performed with distinction in 1997.
