THE OPEN PROFILE
Appleby has become one of the most accomplished players in the world and added the Mercedes Championship to his collection - the very first event on the PGA Tour in 2004. Renowned as an extremely determined competitor who rarely lets a winning opportunity slip by, it was a huge surprise to see him relinquish a four-shot advantage at Bay Hill in March. His form had been disappointing since but there was genuine cause for optimism when he reached a top five berth at the recent Western Open. He came agonisingly close to claiming the Claret Jug two years ago and has the ability to go close again if right on song.
