Tiger Woods gave himself a "fighting chance" of winning The Open after his
third round 68 left him on four under going into tomorrow's final round at Royal
Troon.
The world number one has struggled a little with his game of late by his own
high standards but knows his third round three under score means he is right in
contention for the Claret Jug as he is four off the leader.
"I knew I needed to shoot a good round to give myself a chance going into
Sunday and I was able to do that today," said Woods.
"Now I've got a fighting chance and hopefully I'll play just like I did today
and give myself some more looks and some putts.
"I played really well today. Since the Saturday of the Western I have started
having things come together and today was one of those days when I played really
well.
"I gave myself some good chances early, made some putts, got off to a great
start and then from there just played solid coming home."
Woods knows that a repeat tomorrow could see him right in contention.
He added: "I need to do the same thing tomorrow. You have to get off to a
nice start on the front nine because you know the birdie opportunities on the
back nine are few and far between.
"So I'll try to do the same thing, start well and hopefully make a few on the
back nine as well.
"I think there is pressure on everybody, everybody has to play well. You
can't go out there and play poorly and win this championship.
"Don't forget, anyone at the top of the board is playing well. You have to go
out there and win the championship and hopefully I'll go out there and play well
enough to win it."
Woods has no intention of changing anything about his game as he bids to close
the gap on the leaders.
He added: "What can you change? You are hitting mid-irons and long irons and
it is very difficult to hit the ball close.
"If you go out there and play solid and make no mistakes you'll do
alright."
