Shi Hyun Ahn kept the South Korean players to the fore on the LPGA Tour when leading at the halfway mark in the Wegmans LPGA in Rochester, New York.

The former LPGA Rookie of the Year, who had led after a first-round seven-under-par 65, was on eight under par 136 after today's 71.

That put her one ahead of American 20-year-old Brittany Lang, who also shot 71, and another Korean, Seon Hwa Lee, who had a 67.

A week before the US Women's Open, England's Johanna Head was the only British player to make the cut, and she just scraped through on the final mark of two over par 146 after a fine back nine of two under par 34 for a 71.

Ahn is attempting to make it four wins in a row for the Koreans on the LPGA Tour, and she followed her flawless opening round with a slightly more up and down card made up of four birdies and three bogeys.

Sweden's Helen Alfredsson, the European Solheim Cup captain, continued her impressive season with a second-round 69 for five under 139 and a tie for eighth place.

The 41-year-old has already had two top-10 placings this season and is the second European player behind Annika Sorenstam at number 19 on the money list with over £110,000.

Alfredsson highlighted her round with an eagle at the long eighth and she also had a couple of birdies to raise her hopes of a sixth career win and her first since the 2003 Longs Drugs Challenge.
