Cameron Beckman birdied three of the final five holes to claim his first PGA
Tour title with victory at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic in Mississippi.
A three-time qualifying school graduate and former Lone Star Player of the
Year, Beckman shot a five-under-par 67 to erase a three-shot deficit and finish
at 19-under 269.
Beckman birdied the 14th, 15th and 17th holes to hit top spot for the first
time at the Annandale Golf Club.
When overnight leader Chad Campbell parred the 18th in the final group,
Beckman had his first win in 85 PGA Tour starts.
Unlike several others at the event, Beckman didn't have to worry about keeping
his tour card.
By entering the week 80th on the money list, he did that for the first time in
four tries.
Beckman had held the longest active run of successful trips through the
National Qualifying Tournament, doing it in each of the previous three years.
A former NAIA champion, Beckman played the Buy.com Tour in 1997 and 1998 after
claiming Lone Star Player of the Year honours in 1994.
Campbell finished at 18-under 270. He led by three shots with 10 holes to play
but bogeyed the par-4 14th and parred out to finish a stroke off the pace.
It was still a good week for Campbell, who earned his tour card last week by
finishing at the top of the Buy.com Tour money list.
This was just his third career PGA Tour start.
