Australia's Steven Bowditch hit a superb penultimate round at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in California to shoot to the top of the leaderboard.

Robert Karlsson: In a tie for 11th

The annual Q-School competition sees the top 25 players, including ties, earn 2013 tour cards and Bowditch is in pole position to top the pile after signing for an eight-under 64.

He scored four birdies before the turn and four more afterwards in a stunning blemish-free round. That took him to 23 under through five rounds, one ahead of nearest challenger Kris Blanks.

Derek Ernst is one shot further back, with both men carded six-under rounds of 66 on Sunday.

There was a dramatic slump from South Korea's Kim Meen-whee, who was top after three rounds and second after four.

He could only manage three over for his fifth round and with scores elsewhere improving now has only a share of 30th place and faces a battle to secure his card.

Kim's compatriot Lee Dong-hwan also fell away, though not as dramatically, starting the day in first place and ending three strokes off Bowditch's mark after carding 71.

Sweden's Robert Karlsson and England's Ross Fisher are both in line to secure their place on next year's tour and sit tied for 11th with Brad Fritsch and Matt Jones.
