The European Tour returns to Castle Stuart Golf Links for this week's Aberdeen Asset Management sponsored Scottish Open.

Luke Donald: Teeing off at the 18th last year

Opened in 2009, Castle Stuart staged its first Tour event 12 months ago when inclement weather meant the tournament had to be reduced to 54 holes.

An excellent venue with a stunning vista, the course runs along the southern edge of the Moray Firth - not far from Inverness - and is laid out on two levels.

Holes one to seven are on the lower level, bordering the firth, while the remaining 11 are slightly elevated.

And this week's tournament should provide some much-needed links experience for those teeing-up at Royal Lytham & St Annes in the forthcoming Open Championship.

Who's taking part?

George Coetzee: The up-and-coming South African tied for third at Castle Stuart last July before heading to Sandwich where he enjoyed a commendable top-20 finish in The Open. He tied for 17th in Paris over the weekend.

Nicolas Colsearts: The Belgian, who is currently enjoying the best year of his career to date, posted a top-12 finish in France on Sunday.

Luke Donald: The defending champion who closed with a 63 to win by four shots. The Englishman successfully defended his PGA Championship title at Wentworth on a recent visit to the UK.

Paul Lawrie: Back on home soil where he will hope to fine tune his links game ahead of next week's Open Championship.

Tom Lewis: Has enjoyed a promising start to his professional career that yielded a victory in Portugal last October. He registered a top-30 finish over the links of Royal St George's last July while still an amateur.

Francesco Molinari: Nowadays, the 29-year-old Italian rarely finishes outside the top-25 - he was second at Le Golf National last week when he closed with a best-of-the-day-64.
