<text> Welcome to Royal Birkdale and what promises to be a fascinating final day of the 137th Open Championship. Greg Norman will be teeing off alongside Padraig Harrington at 2.20pm BST protecting a two-shot lead and aiming to become the oldest major champion by five years. But there is plenty of action in the offing before then and there are already some big names out on the course. The weather is better than yesterday but still blustery and scoring is proving difficult. Of the 24 men out already, just two are under par. Justin Rose and Lee Westwood are both two over on the day, while David Howell is level par through five. </text>

<text> David Duval is what you might call an enigma wrapped in a cashmere riddle. The former champion shot 69 on Friday, 82 yesterday and is two under through seven today. You explain that. Westwood is out in two over 36 while Rose has dropped shots at 11 and 12. Talking of Rose, Chris Wood is out at 12.30pm. At eight over the Bristol amateur is threatening a reprise of Justin's heroics of 10 years ago. If Greg Norman had not so selfishly hogged the headlines, you might have heard a bit more about the youngster who shot a magnificent 73 yesterday. </text>

<line count="3" minutes="1010" team="0" colour="">
<text> Lee Westwood took six at the 10th and is now just a shot better off than Rose, who had three straight bogeys from the 11th. This really is turning into a miserable tournament for the two Englishmen, particularly when you consider the high hopes that both had coming in. With the Ryder Cup just eight weeks away, you have to hope this won't dent their confidence. Phil Mickelson is level par through two and Ernie Els has just parred the first. </text>

</line>
<line count="4" minutes="1020" team="0" colour="">
<text> Phil Mickelson has dropped a shot at the third. He is another player whose confidence must have taken a buffeting this week. Incredible that the American has had just five birdies in 57 holes of golf this week. But then Westwood has had just three in 66! </text>

</line>
<line count="5" minutes="1030" team="0" colour="">
<text> Good scoring is possible. South African Thomas Aiken had a hat-trick of birdies from the seventh to turn in 31 and improve from 18 over to 15 over, while England's Paul Waring has picked up two shots in his first four holes. In addition to the three tees moved forward for the third round, officials have today reduced the 10th by 27 yards to 381 yards. The winds, which reached over 45mph yesterday, are expected to stay just below 40mph throughout the day. So nothing is going to be easy out there this afternoon. Par for Els at the tough second. </text>

<line count="6" minutes="1050" team="0" colour="">
<text> Birdie for Ernie Els at the fourth. Nick Dougherty is having a bit of a nightmare out there, seven over for the day through 12, 22 over par for the tournament. Another Englishman who came here with high hopes only to have them disappear on the wind. The best home challenger is Simon Wakefield, a man who has played 210 European Tour events and never won. He was a 500/1 outsider at the start of the week but is now in the thick of contention. What a story it would be if he could win this afternoon. </text>

<line count="8" minutes="1125" team="0" colour="">
<text> Another Major disappointment for Justin Rose, who like McDowell, was blown out of the water on Saturday with a score in the 80s. A closing 73 means he finishes at +23 for the week. </text>

<text> Local man Paul Waring is putting in a sterling finish and a third birdie on the ninth hole has seen him make the turn in 32 and move to +11 for the championship. McDowell completes the full set and bogeys the sixth for a fourth time and he is now back to level for the day and +12 overall. </text>

<line count="11" minutes="1159" team="0" colour="">
<text> Waring is starting to unravel a little and play himself out of a decent cheque this week as a double bogey six on the 11th sees him slip to +1 for the day and +14 for the championship. Lee Westwood completes his week with a 73 for exactly 300 shots and 20 over par. </text>
