Few players have won major titles as dramatically as Mark O'Meara did in the Masters at Augusta.
And few have waited so long to win their first major as he did.
The 41-year-old American started trying in 1981 and finally made it at the 57th attempt.
But while a very good player won in real style
with three birdies in the final four holes to edge out Fred Couples and David Duval, the last of them with a 25 foot birdie putt, a great player - perhaps the greatest - made the first major of the 1998 season extra special.
Jack Nicklaus gave everything he had to try to win a seventh green jacket at the age of 58.
He did not make it, finishing joint-sixth, but in what may prove to be his last hurrah his attempt is what the week deserves to be remembered most for.
