Thomas Bjorn 69 (212): "I don't know how to win majors but hopefully my game will stand up and be
good enough. Everyone is under pressure and you can only believe in
your swing and yourself. I expect Tiger to come out and play his best and win this tournament, we all
know that. But the good thing is that there are so many players around him who
can stand up and also win this tournament. I don't think the pressure is on me. Sergio is there trying to win his first
major and it's been a long time for him. Tiger is there and he wants to win
another major. Nobody is tougher to beat than him.
Sergio Garcia 70 (214): "My stomach was shaky, but I got over it and hung in there as hard as I
could. I'm really pleased with the way I finished because it was a bit of a
struggle, but this is what we practise for and it feels good to be up there. I've been working hard on my game and it seems like it's starting to pay
off."
Tiger Woods 69 (214): "You figure most of the guys are going to get off to pretty good starts
tomorrow. It's probably going to weed itself out on the back nine. At least put
yourself in a position so you have a chance."
Mark Roe 67 (214 dq): (On his disqualification): "It's a quite comical error
- we didn't exchange on the first tee, so I marked my scores on my card and
Jesper marked his scores on his card. After the round I checked it three times, but unfortunately we are
disqualified. What can you do? I've just played one of the greatest rounds of my life and
I can't play tomorrow. I am usually very diligent. It's a freak - I've never done it before in my
life. But that's life. I'll go home now and see my wife and kids. I don't think Jesper can speak. He is gutted for me. But the tournament goes
on and life goes on."
Nick Faldo 67 (217): "It's fantastic out there. We had a free run at it this morning, if you try things and they come off
great; if not it doesn't matter. If the leaders go out and get on with it they should shoot a low score as
well but if the wind gets up and the greens are hard they might be happy with
level par and I'll only be four behind. Then it will be a case of go and do the same tomorrow and see what
happens."
Ernie Els 72 (218): "This golf course is beating us at the moment but if you look at
the scoreboard there's only one score under par at the moment and if I could
play the way I want I've still got a chance. I've got to shoot something very decent tomorrow and hope for a bit of a
breeze. I've still got an outside chance, let's put it that way."
Brian Davis 68 (218): (On being put off by a mobile phone): "It could cost somebody the Open. Imagine it happening on the 17th tomorrow. I should have backed off my putt
(a four-footer). It was a bit of lack of experience and I regret it now - you'd
think I would have learnt after eight years on tour. All we heard all day were messages going off. At the US Open last month we
heard nothing."
Peter Fowler 70 (220): "I played pretty good all day and made the most of the better conditions. The biggest difference to the first two days was that the pins were much
kinder because there were some diabolical ones on the first two days. The week has been great fun. I haven't played the Open since 1995 so it was
good to get another shot at it."
Alastair Forsyth 78 (222): "It was just one of those days when everything went against me because I
didn't do an awful lot wrong and I shot 78. I have shot 78 before and played a lot worse than that, and I have also
played a lot worse and scored better. I just have to take it on the chin and get
on with it."
Tom Lehman 72 (222): (On the slow play rules): "Rounds with three-balls the first two days were taking up to five hours 15
[minutes] and we were round in three hours 42 today. I don't think it's right. How can it be nearly two hours less when you're
playing as a two instead of a three? It's crazy. I reckon we were getting timed half the day and early on it was a
distraction. We played the first nine holes in one hour 45 and the guys behind
[Nick Faldo and Ian Poulter] were a a hole behind. We never held them up."
