| Justin Rose stormed the golfing world as a 17-year-old amateur in 1998 when he tied for fourth in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, sensationally holing from 70 yards on the final hole in front of the packed galleries. He turned professional in a blaze of media coverage and then proceeded to miss cut after cut as it all became too much for the teenager. But you can't keep prodigious talent like that down and he has matured into one of the best young players around, breaking his duck on the European Tour in South Africa in 2002. It is hard to believe that he is still only 22 and his tied fifth at the US Open recently proved he is on the verge of making the step up to regular major contender though two successive missed cuts recently are a worry. |
