| Phil is still searching for that elusive first major and even his most ardent fan would not be overly optimistic about his prospects here. He is still struggling to find any consistency off the tee and will not be relishing the prospect of deep rough and cavernous pot bunkers gobbling up anything straying off the straight and narrow. His Open record to date is modest and he failed to convince when down the field in last week's Scottish Open. But it is impossible to write off a player capable of phenomenal stretches of scoring which make the game look simple - benign conditions this week would certainly help his cause. |
