It's one of golf's big mysteries why Monty has repeatedly failed to live up to expectations in the British Open. Whether it's the added pressure of being the home favourite or that his game isn't suited to links golf is unclear but the bare facts are that Monty has missed the cut six times in 13 Open starts and finished in the top 20 just three times. The former seven-time European number one still hasn't given up hope of landing a deserved first Major but he hasn't got close since his US Open second place in 1997. Despite worries over his troublesome back the Scot has been in fine this season - finishing second twice as well as posting three other top six finishes. As long as it doesn't blow a gale, Monty's recent form suggests he could be one of Europe's best bets at Muirfield.
