BRITISH OPEN PROFILE
After an 11-month barren spell, Clarke splashed his way to a three-stroke victory in the Compass Group English Open at the start of June. He then put up a solid performance in the US Open before recording further top 30 finishes in the Murphy's Irish Open, the Smurfit European Open and the Barclays Scottish Open. Clarke finished tied 11th in the Open at Lytham back in 1996 and led by four after 45 holes at Troon in 1997. The Ulsterman came seventh at St Andrews two years ago before finishing four shots behind David Duval to finish third in last year's tournament. If he can get off to a good start he has the game to challenge the likes of Tiger Woods and another bold showing can be expected.
