Garcia has been waiting for the Open to be played at Muirfield ever since he won the British amateur crown there in 1998. This season has been a mixed one for the Spanish sensation after he started the year like a house on fire as he captured the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii. He continued to play well when eighth at the US Masters, but then had an disastrous May which brought two missed cuts and a 73rd in his three US starts. However, he has returned to form of late with two top 20 finishes in the Buick Classic and the Greater Hartford Open, along with fourth place in the US Open at Bethpage. Came eighth in last year's Open at Lytham and once again starts this year's tournament as one of the leading fancies. If he can handle the pressure when in contention he must have a serious chance of once again tasting Muirfield success.
