BRITISH OPEN PROFILE
The hugely talented left-hander has risen to second in the world without winning a major and has had so many chances it is now a monkey on his back. Some are even starting to call him the American Greg Norman after his ability to get into position after 54 holes before fading when it matters most. In the first two Majors of the year he has again been in contention only to be once again denied by that man Tiger Woods. Mickelson finished third at Augusta before coming runner-up at the US Open. On the plus side Mickelson has never played golf of such a consistently high standard and recently won his second successive Greater Hartford Open. He's yet to produce anything like his best in the Open although he was 11th at St Andrews two years ago and tied 30th at Lytham last year. After his latest near miss at the US Open he is desperately keen to deliver although his chances could be undone if the wind really blows.
