Rose - putting problems on final day (Allsport)
THORNY TIME FOR ROSE
Justin Rose lamented a bad day with the putter - but could still reflect on a
successful week at Muirfield.
The Englishman started the day just three shots off the pace after
dramatically coming back into the reckoning in the turmoil of Saturday
afternoon.
But he could only card a one-over 72 for a total of one-under 283 - and
afterwards Rose was left with thoughts of what might have been.
He said: "I hit the ball fantastically today to be honest - I had seriously
loads and loads of birdie chances out there but it was one of those days where I
feel like breaking my putter.
"But it's a massive learning experience and I felt very comfortable out
there, and if you can start feeling comfortable in a major - well it doesn't
really get any better than that.
"If you learn that, you can compete with the world's best at the highest
level, then you're halfway there."
Playing with world number one Tiger Woods for the first two days had been a
particular highlight for Rose.
And he added: "It's been a special Open in terms of the atmosphere and
everything and obviously playing with the world number one for the first time -
I'll never forget that experience.
"I do feel like the Open does something special for me - it's a tournament I
love and it's a tournament I want to win above any else."
