O'Malley - en route to a fine 65 (Allsport)
O'MALLEY ENJOYS 'SPECIAL' ROUND
By David Prior, PA Sport
Peter O'Malley enjoyed one of his trade-mark birdie runs to claim the
club-house lead with a final round of 65.
The Australian, seven shots off the lead on two over at the start of his
round, pitched in for an eagle at the ninth and then birdied the 10th, 11th and
12th to rocket up the leaderboard.
It was reminiscent of O'Malley's most famous moment, when he won the 1992
Scottish Open by playing the last five holes in seven under par, and his final
total of four-under 280 represented a profitable day's work.
Playing partner Mark O'Meara had also been in fine form in compiling a round
of 68, including three birdies in the first four.
O'Malley said: "Mark and I had a really good day out there.
"Mark got off to a flying start and I was just sort of dragging along then I
chipped in for eagle at nine and that really got me going and I had a great
little run.
"Anytime you shoot 65 is good, but on the last day of the Open, is always
more special," he added.
