David Duval (65): "I am putting great again. I am comfortable standing over the ball. There has been quite some time since I've had that feeling. It's hard to say what will happen tomorrow. I have no idea what the weather will be like. You know, it might require 65 again, it might not. I got myself back into it today and that's where I want to be, especially after being seven behind after two days."
Ernie Els (67): "If the weather stays like this, the leaders can shoot 67 but I played good, shot four under and I have to be pleased with that. I tried to squeeze as much as I could out of the course there at the end. Even though I was a few strokes off the lead, there is still a lot of pressure to push yourself. But if I'm within five shots of the lead going into tomorrow, I'm in with a chance."
Retief Goosen (67): "The big thing today was I was putting well. I might have kept the ball in play here and there a little bit more than I did the first two days, but I holed a lot of good putts. Tomorrow is going to be a big day and I need to get off to a good start, a fast start, and then I have a chance. Everything is so bunched up and tomorrow it's the guy who is going to make the putts who is going to win the tournament. The course is great, the greens are very good, but I think if it got very blowy I might not like it as much."
Sergio Garcia (67): "I enjoyed the whole round because today I was able to play my usual golf. A lot of good tee shots, a lot of good second shots and I made a couple of putts. I'll probably have to shoot 63, 64, 65, something like that, tomorrow. Can I win? If you ask me this question yesterday I would tell you impossible. Right now I tell you I can do it."
Bernhard Langer (67): "It feels great to be in contention in the tournament. I've always wanted to win this one. Obviously I've been in contention a number of times over the last 20 years. It's a great feeling. The reception you get walking on to every green, you just sense the knowledge the crowd has here and they cheer for every good shot. They cheer for every player, no matter where he is from."
Ian Woosnam (67): "Very pleased with 67, obviously. Conditions were pretty good and were favourable for good scoring today. The greens were a little bit faster and a little dryer. Overall, the course was fantastic and it was a matter of just trying to get your ball in the right place on the fairways and then hopefully hole a few putts. I played pretty steady today. I had a few chip and putts to start off with on the first four holes. After that I played pretty solid."
Miguel Angel Jimenez (67): "My form is very good, I played fantastic round the golf course today. It takes time to get used to playing links golf and I feel very good now at this moment. On this golf course you have sometimes to forget the flag because the greens are very hard and because of the bouncing ball it is very dangerous and you have to keep the ball in play. But I love the pressure of a major championship. I like to be there."
Billy Mayfair (67): "I got off to a good start and put the ball in the right position. This championship could now all depend on the weather. We'll just have to wait to we wake up in the morning and see what the conditions are like."
Paul Lawrie (69): "I played lovely today except for bogeys at 16 and 18. I'm just having two or three loose shots a day that are very destructive. I'm a bit hacked off! I played better than my score should have been."
Raphael Jacquelin (69): “I am very happy to be five under and in contention but it was difficult for me today, I missed a lot of fairways about seven or eight times I got up and down, but I have to play better tomorrow if I want to keep going. Yesterday I hit the ball great off the tee but today not very good. It is difficult to hit the ball good all week long. My bad day I would say and if two under is my bad day than that is good.”
Des Smyth (70): “You know it’s funny I was never in trouble on the golf course, my bogey on three was when I three putted from the back of the green. What I’m trying to say is I was never in any danger and I tell you I thought I was on a good thing when I got to six under. When I got to six I saw seven was leading and knew that things would pan out whatever. My iron play is a little slack but my driving is good and I putted well.”
Adam Scott (70): “It was pretty scrappy. I hit a few good shots and a few bad ones. I’m not quite there. I was trying to get something to happen. On eight I hit driver where I’ve hit irons the other days, hit it down there hoping to leave an easy chip rather than a 7-iron. I still made four.”
David Dixon (70): "I'm hitting the ball great. It's great to keep the ball in play and give myself chances. I'm just taking so much out of this and to be out there playing in the Open is just great! It's a fantastic experience."
Jesper Parnevik (71): “I’m happy to be only one behind after all the trouble I went through today. I made some silly mistakes, the four putt on eight was a little tough but I’m really pleased with my play on the back nine, four under for a little while there was pretty good stuff. I repaired the damage as good as I could. 17 hurt a little bit, I must admit. Double bogey there was not the way I wanted to finish. But like I said I’m happy to be only one behind. It’s going to be something special, I promise you that.”
Joe Ogilvie (71): “I will be nervous tomorrow and I would like to say I have a game plan but it will all probably change after the first three holes. I will try to hit the middle of the greens and avoid the bunkers and try to make a few putts. I don’t have the talent to shoot a 63 on this golf course and not in this type of wind. I have been playing very well and I am happy where I am and I am very proud of myself. If I stick to my game plan and make of couple of putts, keep my food down and finish 18 with a low score, who knows?”
Lee Westwood (71): "Level par is not going anywhere at all! There was some good and some bad out there but there's more good this week than bad. I'm just trying to get back to how I was swinging in the past but this week has definitely been a week of progress."
Robert Allenby (71): “Every time I made something, I took it back. I made eagle at the 11th, that’s about it. I hit driver down the left of the fairway but couldn’t see the green. I hit a big cut with a 3-wood over the trees, just right of the green, and chipped it in.”
Greg Owen (72): (Hit an albatross at the 11th) “I seemd to play quite well but never gave myself a chance for too many birdies. It’s my first albatross. The longest shot I’ve holed has been with a six iron, but that was a three iron today. It’s been a great week and the crowds have been fantastic. It’s something I’ve never experienced before.”
Mark O’Meara (72): “Bad start, made birdies at 10 and 11 which kind of got me back in it. We needed our golf carts today so we could have got it over quicker. I felt bad for Tiger, it’s not where he’d like to have it. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he lays a good one down tomorrow. That’s golf, as we all know. He’s not always going to play flawlessly. So, we’ll work hard and try to play better tomorrow. Overall I’m not too disappointed. At least I battled through it and hung in there.”
Colin Montgomerie (73): “My goal at the start of the week was to get into contention on Sunday and that is what I have achieved. I am not leading anymore and it might be beneficial to have that lead away and start in a more relaxed fashion tomorrow. I was very relaxed today, I just putted particularly poorly on the front nine. I don’t suffer from nerves, and I was quite relaxed on the first tee, though I pulled my 6-iron. The bunker shot proved everything was okay. I got on with it, but just did not putt well enough on the first nine. That was the key to the day really. I know I can score 65 round here, and if I do that tomorrow I have every chance of winning.”
Jose Maria Olazabal (73): “I didn’t putt well again today, my iron play was no good, so it’s difficult to score. You don’t have to use the driver much here. I used it quite well today. But when you miss greens from the fairway and you don’t make putts, there you go. Simple.” (On Monty’s chances) “I think he deserves it. I’ve always said he’s due one at least. He has the game to win a major event. It’s a matter of him being calm enough and just being mindful of his own business.”
Sandy Lyle (77): "I had three drives that weren't quite there but it was my putting. My putting was abysmal, absolutely abysmal. I also didn't get the best of starts with a bogey at the first and that was my Open over. It's just been a messy kind of three days."
