OPEN PROFILE
Leonard has already fallen in love with this tournament after a brilliant start to his Open career. In 1997 his name was added to the claret jug after a scintillating final round 65 and in 1999 he almost made it two wins in three years in a play-off at Carnoustie. His other achievements include include wins in the 1998 Players Championship and the 1992 US Amateur so he has the class and temperament for the big occasion. Despite bombing in the US Open last month Leonard has shown some promising form in the last couple of months and could be ready to peak again. Even though he missed the cut at Lytham last time, as a player who grew up in the winds of Texas, he thrives in typical British Open conditions. Although his stellar Open performances have so far come in Scotland, he could be ready to write a new chapter in his Open career south of the border.
