OPEN PROFILE
Lytham was the scene of Lehman's greatest hour as he joined the majors club with a majestic victory in the 1996 Open. A course record 64 in round three saw him slip the field and he held off his rivals on the final day to win by three. In was the highlight of a memorable year for the Ryder Cup man who missed out in the US Open by a single shot and topped the US Tour Money List after a runaway victory in the Tour Championship. Lehman, who early in his career travelled in a battered old car as he struggled to make a living from the game, will know the importance of a fast start. Despite respectable finishes of tied 18th at the Masters and tied 24th in the US Open he was never really in contention after opening with a 75 at Augusta and a 76 at Southern Hills. If Lehman can hang on to the leaders he could light up Lytham again.
