OPEN PROFILE
The big South African with the syruppy swing finished second in the first three majors last year so is still trying to add to the US Open titles he captured in 1994 and 1997. He also finished runner-up to Tom Lehman at Lytham five years ago when a late charge finally lost momentum over the closing holes. With two second places and four other top 11s in his nine appearances he boasts one of the best modern-day Open records so he should be up there again. But a worrying loss of form over the last few months doesn't bode well. Perhaps the US Open win for compatriot Retief Goosen will reawaken him although he goes to Lytham with injury doubts after pulling out of the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond with a recurrence of his back problems.
