OPEN PROFILE
The hugely talented left-hander has risen to second in the world without winning a major and has had so many chances it is now a monkey on his back. Some are even starting to call him the American Greg Norman after his ability to get into position after 54 holes before fading when it matters most. On the plus side Mickelson has never played golf of such a consistently high standard and was a recent winner at the Greater Hartford Open. He's yet to produce anything like his best in the Open although last year's 11th place at St Andrews was his best effort in eight attempts. After his latest near miss at the US Open he is desperately keen to deliver although his chances could be undone if the wind really blows. Tied 40th in the last Lytham Open.
