Calc added his name to the claret jug way back in 1989 when he defeated Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in a play-off. But he's proved this season that he still has plenty to offer. His standout moment came with a sensational eight-shot victory over a star-studded field in the Phoenix Open in January and he rode his hot streak through the Masters where he finished an excellent fourth. Despite a cooling off period he was a respectable tied 24th in the US Open on a course that didn't really suit so he could be ready to launch some big guns here. Calc suffered a nightmare in his first Lytham Open in 1988, missing the cut after shooting 76-84 but he carded two 68s when tied 40th in the 1996 running. If his shoot-at-every-pin approach works he could cause a stir.
