There's few in the field more deserving of an Open title than the enigmatic Swede. The first of Parnevik's near misses came in 1994 at Turnberry when, after refusing to check the leaderboard, he bogeyed the 17th after thinking he needed a birdie and allowed Nick Price to sprint past him. He was again runner-up at Troon in 1997 when losing out to the fast-finishing Justin Leonard. Last year at St Andrews he finished 36th, while three years ago he got right into contention again before finishing fourth. Surprisingly for a player of his class he's only managed two tops 10s on the US Tour this season. However, one was a victory in the Honda Classic in March and the other came at the St Jude Classic last month. Has a better Open record than most of the world's top 10 and came up with the ideal preparation for Lytham with an eye-catching effort at last week's Scottish Open.
